CGE Peer Advisor Selection 2023-2024
The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) is hiring 2-3 part-time student workers for the academic year 2021-2022 to join the CGE team. Peer advisors will assist with the planning and implementation of a number of CGE activities during the academic year to promote and advise for study abroad, support international students, and campus internationalization initiatives.
Position dates: 8/21/2022-05/05/2023
Compensation: $12 per hour
Work-hours: 10-15 hours per week during regularly scheduled hours, Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; some evenings or weekends may be required.
General requirements for the positions:
- Have studied abroad on an approved TU study abroad program
- Current student status at TU
- Be able to advise students in an accurate and professional manner upholding policies/procedures of TU and the CGE
- Have a positive, enthusiastic attitude, be reliable, responsible
- Willingness to do some public speaking/presentations skills
- Ability to work independently and to take initiative
- Be able to commit to scheduled hours (8-12) hours per week, attend training sessions and bi-weekly group meetings as well as work occasional evenings/weekend hours.

General Position Description:
- Serve as the initial point of contact for students researching TU study abroad programs. Work one-on-one with students to guide them through study abroad resources, policies, procedures, and application requirements during scheduled office hours in the CGE office
- Offer a student perspective on the study abroad experience
- Help students read and interpret program information on the CGE and host program website
- Conduct one outreach event per month with an SA organization as well as classroom visits as assigned
- Answer questions from International Students about campus life, refer international students to SEVIS officer
- Help international students get settled and adapt to campus life
- Assist the other PAs with their tasks
- Complete general office duties as assigned by CGE staff
The CGE will also work to recruit students with specific skills in the following areas:
Events and Outreach: Assist with the planning and execution of CGE events throughout the school year including making logistic arrangement, preparing materials & packets, contacting presenters, scheduling spaces, ordering food, recruiting volunteers, etc. for events such as the International Programs Fair, Pre-Departure Meeting, Returnee events, International Student Events, Global Grads/Graduation Stole event, etc.
Valuable skills include organization skills and attention to detail; experience organizing events, especially at the TU campus; ability to multi-task and work in different projects simultaneously, access to a car to purchase event supplies.
Marketing and Social Media: Assist with the preparation of publications, marketing pieces, social media posts, and CGE website, such as writing articles and posts for the CGE Blog, creating print and digital marketing materials including videos, assist with managing the CGE’s social media presence.
Valuable skills include organization skills and attention to detail, experience working with developing narrative, graphic, and video content, being tech-savvy, creativity, familiarity with social media.
Administrative and Assessment: Assist with research into best practices, curricular matching, as well as assessment at the direction of CGE staff. Such projects include developing systems and processes to coordinate assessments, working within databases and Excel to create reports, working with foreign universities to obtain and match syllabi, and developing an understanding with best practices in the field of study abroad and international education including diversity programming and outreach.
Valuable skills include organization skills and attention to detail; experience conducting or participating in assessment, experience conducting research, experience managing complex processes, and facility with Excel.

Please also outline how your experiences and campus involvement impact or enhance your ability to connect with and support TU students especially diverse and underrepresented students in study abroad.

In addition to student advising, CGE Peer Advisors generally fall into three task areas: Marketing and Social Media, Events and Outreach, Administrative and Assessment. Please explain which one of these position types most interests you and what skills and experiences you have that will help you to be successful in such a role. Finally, suggest one to two things you would like to try or see happen, related to your chosen area, during this year at the CGE.
