Program Description:
University of Sheffield
Sheffield, United Kingdom

We are one of the UK's leading Universities. We were voted number one for student experience in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2014-2015. We've produced five Nobel Prize winners, and many of our alumni have gone on to hold positions of great responsibility and influence around the world.
Sheffield has the biggest and best engineering faculties in the UK. Independent assessments of our research excellence confirm more than two thirds of our research to be either internationally excellent or world leading.
Our expertise is extensive – our seven academic departments and two interdisciplinary programme areas cover all the engineering disciplines. They are leaders in their fields and they are outstanding contributors to the development of new knowledge and linking their research to the teaching of the engineers of the future.
The Diamond is our latest development and this £81 million building is our largest ever investment in teaching and learning. It will create a fantastic place for modern interdisciplinary teaching. As well as specialist engineering teaching facilities, the building will also house a range of lecture theatres, seminar rooms, open-plan learning spaces, library services and social spaces, including a café.
Across the University, we have over 25,000 students from 121 countries, and over 7,000 staff. The University of Sheffield is a popular choice with applicants, and once they arrive, our students enjoy the experience so much that many settle in Sheffield after they graduate.

City Information
Known the world over as “The Steel City”, Sheffield was famed for its industry in the heyday of the 1900’s and remains a city of innovation to this day. However the smoking chimney stacks are no more and instead you’ll find a green, modern cityscape set against the stunning backdrop of the Peak District National Park. We have a friendly, independent and alternative spirit that you won’t find in other cities, alongside a thriving cultural scene boasting award-winning theatre, beer, music, festivals, street art and so much more. Sheffield has a population of approximately 575,400 people and has seen extensive redevelopment. Sheffield is located in the heart of the UK and is  an easy two hour train from London.

GE3 WORKS
Global E3 is a consortium of universities with strong engineering programs around the world. These universities agree to exchange students between their various campuses. Unlike a program, students are not guaranteed participation at a particular location but instead Global E3 will match students based on their preferences and coursework requirements to a school within the consortium. This means students, while they can apply to a particular program and location, must keep an open mind. The CGE will work with students to secure additional course permissions if necessary.

Each university listing includes:
  • engineering disciplines available
  • languages of instruction
  • start and end dates for academic study
  • a link to each university's home page which includes housing information
Students may also have the opportunity to take intensive language study and perhaps undertake an internship or research experience in the host country depending on location.
